03-AQUATIC FOOD SYSTEMS AND UTILIZATION: A NUTRITIONAL AND FOOD LOSS AND WASTE APPROACH

This document reviews the vital role of aquatic food systems in nutrition, food security and livelihoods. Aquatic foods, particularly fish, are recognized as a unique source of essential fatty acids, providing the micronutrients and protein many diets lack, especially in poor and vulnerable communities. However, food loss and waste within aquatic food systems undermines their sustainability, and by extension their contribution to food and nutrition security.

04-IMPLEMENTATION OF ARTICLE 11 OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR RESPONSIBLE FISHERIES: FEATURES, CHALLENGES AND INSIGHTS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF FAO MEMBERS

This paper provides a summary analysis of the implementation of Article 11 of the 1995 FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) and its related instruments by Members. The summary covers the period since the last report, presented at the 17th Session of the FAO Sub Committee on Fish Trade (COFI:FT), held in Vigo, Spain, from 25–29 November 2019.

05-SMALL-SCALE FISHERIES AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE

Although products from small scale fisheries (SSF) circulate in markets at various scales their contribution to international trade is still not fully understood and most likely not fully realized. This document highlights international commitments and opportunities to address this missing angle and proposes related pathways.

06-TRADE AGREEMENTS AND MARKET ACCESS FOR FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE PRODUCTS

As requested by Members, this document complements document COFI:FT/XVII/2019/10 and extends the analysis to three additional trade agreements. These agreements were selected because of their relevance to fisheries and aquaculture and so as to be representative of a broad range of levels of development. The agreements covered are: (1) the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, (2) the China-Peru Free Trade Agreement, and (3) the African Continental Free Trade Area. Each section focuses on

In 2022, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will establish a “Post 2020 global biodiversity framework” that will guide the implementation of the Convention’s work over the next decade and beyond. Furthermore, novel listings of commercially exploited aquatic species in Appendices I and II will be considered by the 19th Conference of Parties of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
